A Message From Principal Diaz

October 2014

Dear Strathern Parents and Community,

As we prepare to move forward, let’s continue to remind our students to continue to Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible and Be Here and On Time! Our teachers have been working feverishly to support students advance academically. We have been focusing on ensuring that we Communicate the Purpose of the Lesson to students, ensuring that our instruction supports the objective, and that students have many opportunities to engage in rigorous conversations where they use academic language. This is especially important as our testing days approach. Kinder through 5th grade students will be taking the District’s Interim Math Assessment October 13- October 17, they will be taking the District’s Interim English Assessment October 27 through October 31.

This month is our annual School-Wide Emergency Drill. This drill will take place Tuesday October 14, 2014 at 8:30 am. The main office will be closed for the duration of the drill. Should you need to pick up your child during this event please report to the Request gate on Strathern Street.

Please support our PTA by attending Chuck E. Cheese night on Thursday, October 16, 2014 between 3:00 – 9:00 pm. The location is 8375 Laurel Cyn. Blvd, Sun Valley, 91352. Don’t forget to say you are from Strathern Elementary!

Our annual Halloween parade will take place on Friday, October 31, 2014 at 8:30 am. Parents are invited to attend; you may enter through the Strathern Street gate. Students are encouraged to come to school in their costumes and to bring clothes to change after the parade. Please ensure that your child is not wearing inappropriate costumes, weapons, or masks that impede their vision.

Reminders:

  • To ensure your child’s safety, we will continue to enforce “Closed Campus” policy. There will be no parents/visitors allowed on campus before, during or after school without signing in at the main office.
  • Ready, Set, Go! Program is available in the auditorium 6:30 - 7:50am daily. Parents must enroll students in the program. If you are interested please see a coach in the auditorium in the morning.
  • L.A.’s Best is available for Kinder – 5th grade students and will begin immediately afterschool and ends at 6:00 pm. Students must be enrolled in the program and must be signed out. If you have any questions regarding this program you can see any L.A.’s Best coach.
  •  Y.S. program is available for 2nd – 5th grade students and begins immediately afterschool and ends at 6:00 pm. If you have any questions regarding this program you can see any Y.S. coach.

As always thank you for your support!

Sincerely,
